This is the America I want to live in. One where we stare the impossible in the face and do it just to prove we can. One that strives to reach the limits of our technology, creativity, and spirit. An America where we ask "how much further can we go?" instead of "who will pay for it?" Where we understand the meaning of sacrifice and bravery and the quest for knowledge- In order to ensure a better, brighter, more prosperous future. An America where we didn't say "it's too hard." "We can't afford it."
I want to live in an America that still believes in greatness. That still does the impossible. That refuses to say "this is good enough". That won't say "Fuck it- We'll let China handle that."
On September 12, 1962, John F Kennedy told the nation that we would go to the moon, using technologies, materials, and skills that hadn't even been invented yet. We landed on July 20, 1969, six years and ten months later.
In less than seven years, we invented the technology to visit another planet, just to prove we could. Today, with literally millions of times more advanced technology, we can't even feed our own people, or provide them with medical care- something every other civilized country has already figured out on their own. We still depend on fossil fuels. Our roads and bridges are crumbling- We can't even keep pace with the Romans of 3000 years ago.
I believe we can do better. I believe we HAVE to do better.
